Scary Stories

Yvonne might have appeared to be a socialite on the outside, but on the inside she was far more hermit than most would guess. Most of her little clique had returned from their vacations with tales to regale of summer romances and exotic places they had the chance to sun in and do little more, except charm boys out of their pocket books. All giggles and shared secrets that had been whispered over the phone on their trips back to the school, or by emails. None of which Yvonne received due to her constant travel by train with her father, who all but forbade she use even her cell phone much less a laptop. His excuse? She'd see them all when she returned to school. In a way, it made her feel very out of the loop. Or, perhaps over the course of the summer months, she'd changed somehow while her clique remained the same. Regardless, it was both disheartening and a relief. On some level, when her friends came to her room to greet her and then went on to tell about their summer romances, she was more than happy to tell them she had some books she needed to pick up for her Lit. course with Professor Torres.

She'd never be made out to be a liar, and so here she was, entering the near silent library just in time to pick up the tail end of something.... something. Nothing she could put her finger on, so to speak. It was just a wisp that brushed past and nothing more than that. Those pale blue eyes traversed the interior of the library with a slight rise of brow beneath the dark hedge of bangs before she stepped in fully with a deep breath of the old, book smelling room. Book, time, history. She stood in reverie of the possibilities of what had taken place here within the library that had been around for so many generations, even prior to being the school. Forbidden romances? Secret conferences? Plots of deceit?

But then, there was one lone glow in the library amongst the study tables and the familiar fall of dark hair. Or maybe it was the profile of Anouk reading. Appearing to be reading? Heels clicked with careful quiet across the wooden floor as she approached the table. "I'd ask if you come here often, but that's kind of a silly question." Berry lacquered lips curved into a soft, friendly smile. "What are you reading?" Inquired with genuine curiosity, though she didn't peer over the woman's shoulder to try to find out. There was very little more annoying than someone trying to read over your shoulder.

There seemed to be a bit of something off about her slightly older friend, though it was impossible to pinpoint what it might have been. The three time iteration of needing a distraction was momentarily scrutinized, as if weighing the truth in the words vs. just trying to be friendly and considerate. Yvonne knew the look of needing a distraction, though, and would oblige.

"Something's different between me and them. They all have their summer romance stories to gossip over and they've all kept in touch over the summer, where as I have none of that and had no choice but to cease communications of any technical kind. I kind of feel like they've outgrown me. Or maybe that I've outgrown them. Tales of their romances and vacations don't seem to hold the same excitement for me as it used to. Kind of feel like a stranger with those I used to call friends."

She wondered if Anouk could sympathize with that. She only had a few years on Yvonne, but years didn't really translate much for real world experience.
