Setting: By only a few degrees it had warmed up, but it was an improvement nonetheless. Whether by natural cause or supernatural cause, well, that was left to the imagination. However, the grounds of Rookhaven were comfortably warm, maybe only in need of a light sweater for the outdoor movie that was playing as entertainment for students and faculty. The kitchen staff had gone out of their way for snacks and drinks, all of which were set on side tables against the main entrance wall under the overhang, just in case it should rain. Popcorn, sweets, fruit, chips, and various things to wash them all down with, all of which were non-alcohol and being watched carefully. Several blankets and chairs had been set up across the still green lawn and the movie projector set inside a window with the white screen directly ahead for a viewing of the Covenant, by special request. Students and faculty milled about, joining in cliques and groups or otherwise quiet unto themselves after the school-wide announcement was made. The movie was due to start in about ten minutes.
James: - James headed out, he figured the movie was more for the students, but all he was doing was sitting in his room drinking anyway. The professor was dressed in a pair of loose fitting jeans and a black shirt that buttoned up with the sleeves rolled up and bottom hem tucked into those jeans. Hair hung behind his ears and he pulled at his beard a bit, a habit when he things on his mind. Moving over he'd grab a chair and pull it further from where the students conjured and sat, relaxing. - [d]
Yvonne: Yvonne didn't really much care for movies, or TV in general, but she could appreciate being outside while the weather was still warm. It'd only be a matter of weeks before it was too cold and sunshine would be minimal. Dressed in a pair of comfortable flats and a casual skirt and sweater, a light weight shawl wrapped around her shoulders to cross her chest beneath folded arms, she exited the main entrance quietly and gave a pass of crystalline eyes over the amassing bodies. No faces she recognized, but that didn't surprise her. Anyone she knew by name or called a friend likely felt the same as she did and would rather hang in their room where it was quiet. Still, she picked up a container of the popcorn, looked down into it, then started out to where chairs had been gathered to claim a seat.
Dragos: Sweater weather was the best kind of weather., Dragos being partial to the damp chill. The Romanian liked things a bit dreary, though this atmosphere was hardly catatonic. He wasn't a big fan of movies but he did have an awful sweet tooth. Movies were always paired with junk food, so how could he refuse? Hazels drifted over the array of sugary treats, pale fingers walking along the table in search of the perfect snack. A cookie was selected, digits bypassing the popcorn. Dark hair was tussled, tender pads smoothing over the strands from root to tip. Dressed in a black paisley button down that was paired with a laced cravat, he couldn't help but look like he was fresh off the boat. A sucker for the classics. His palm smoothed down the equally dark vest, dress pants far too ironed. The cookie was practically shoved into his mouth, a glutton for anything chocolate. Poor guy didn't even bother to try and taste it.
anouk: Anouk had spent most of the day memorizing the posted syllabuses and checking out the suggested reading from the library. It wasn't that she was particularly studious, but the more time she spent studying - the less time she would need to spend awkwardly conversing with her peers. Tonight, however, was time to socialize. Her roommate hadn't arrived yet, so she'd been in solitude for most of the day save for a small run in with Professor Waters. Clad in a large, beat up sweatshirt that read ROOKHAVEN UNIVERSITY in big bold letters across the front with 2012's game dates down the back; she finished the look with double-cuffed jeans and her token navy blue trainers. Wild curly black hair was barely kept under control in a pony tail out of her face. With her room key and phone tucked safely in her pockets, she moseyed two paces behind the Romanian, looking over the snacks. Eventually, she grabbed a soda pop and a bag of skittles before turned around. Immediately she found the very hard to miss Yvonne and made her way to the girl. "This seat taken?" she asked with a smile before settling in to a lawn chair and tucking her legs under herself. Twisting off the cap, she took a swig and leaned over the arm rest to listen in on the conversation, adding on a comment about how much she loved this movie.[d]
Dragos: Dragos felt like he had a shadow ( and not the kind that goes bump in the night). No it was a different kind of chill that ran down his spine, that uncomfortable social etiquette clawing at his throat. He swallowed the hunk of cookie and brushed the crumbs from his lower lip. A brow arched as Anouk passed him, the girl having chosen a soda to quench her thirst. Blech. The Romanian scrunched his face at her picked poison. He was quite opinionated when it came to food and drink. Most of the time he kept a strict diet but it was those damned baked goods that got him each time. Polished shoes shuffled along the grass as he made his way toward Yvonne and Anouk. Dragos stole a lawn chair and turned it backward. Arms were crossed and resting on the back of the chair as he straddled the creaky thing. His cookie was nibbled on a little slower this time, tongue easing out to swipe away the chocolate from the corner of his mouth. " Vhat is playin'?" He spoke with little interest. That thick Slavic drawl crawled it's way up his throat, guttural tones coating his words.
Yvonne: Yvonne hadn't been engrossed in the movie so much as the social interactions. Bobby the bragger was out there, telling his stories as always and making semi-crude remarks to various girls in passing. It was a familiar, and welcome voice that drew her attention up and over as Anouk joined her. A slow, subtle smile swept berry hued lips. "It was, but you can have." It hadn't been, it was just a joke. Gossip was bit this year for the new various teachers and students that had already arrived. It was easy to tell which students would be crushing on which teachers. Pretty sure the new music teacher, and the new culinary teacher were right near the top of the list. "How are you doing this evening? Seems you've been busy...." The statement trailed off as Dragos opted join them. The slavic accent was actually one of her favorites. Of all the places Le Reves went, Romania was one she looked forward to every summer. "Nice to see you, too, Dragos. Please, join us, won't you?" The most subtle hint of sarcasm to him for simply helping himself to join them.
James: - Well, there he sat waiting for the movie to start. Looking back to the table of goodies, he should have grabbed some popcorn. Ah well, looked back to the screen and pulled out his cellphone idly playing Fruit Ninja on it while he waited while still trying to keep tabs on the students around him. Now, whatever gossip had been spread about him was pureply false... whatever it was. - [d]
anouk: Before Yvonne had gotten a word out, Robert had passed a grade 10 eating ice cream and made a comment about what else she could lick. It earned him a disgusted look before turning back to Yvonne. She had yet to meet the culinary instructor but had heard some stories already. However, she could attest that Professor Waters was an attractive, albeit older, gentleman. He'd seemed pleasant enough. "Yeah, good, you know just-..." she began replying until she realized Yvonne's attention had turned elsewhere. Just as she was turning to look at the newcomer, Yvonne excused herself with a phone call - ever the social butterfly. Scrambling in this new social setting, she adjusted her position in her chair and turned to Dragos. "Erm...it's going to be The Covenant," she responded awkwardly. "It's about four founding families in the States. I heard it was based on this school." She shrugged and sipped at her pop. [d]
Dragos: Nice to see you, too, Dragos. A sharp brow arched as he turned toward Yvonne. The Romanian tilted his head to the side like a curious bird and grinned, the boy had the devil in him. Hazels glinted with mischief and something darker. He was about to reply when the girl got up to answer a phone call. Dragos tsked, his tongue clicking against the roof of his mouth. His attention fell upon the soda drinker and he offered her the same shark like smile. " Oh? Must be good then, da?" He took another bite of his cookie, finishing off the last morsel. A hand was wiped off on his pants before it was offered to Anouk. " Dragos..."The professor who taught culinary science had his eyes glued to his phone, but even Dragos had to agree with the girls the man was good looking. A dip of his head was offered to his senior.
James: - He paused the game a moment and reached into his back pocket sitting up a bit to do so. He pulled a silver flask from that pocket and looked around a little bit, while he was unnoticed he screwed the cap and took a big quick swig before putting it back. - "Ahh..." - He then felt a great disturbance in the force. He'd only been here a day and there was already stories running around about him? Gossip was one thing he didn't miss about Rookhaven. Went back to playing his game just as the movie started. He'd look up as the screen lit up making him turn off the game and put the phone away. Left leg now rested on right as he sat back to watch. - [d]
anouk: Both their eyes were hazel. The difference was that Anouk was about as threatening as a stuffed penguin. Under this student's gaze, she found herself wondering if this is how live bait felt when it was lowered into a cage. It made her feel terribly uncomfortable. Shifting in her seat, she tried to brush it off, glancing around before taking Dragos' hand and shaking it, replying "Anna" as her name. It was just a nickname, but she found very few people could pronounce her name correctly otherwise. To hide her discomfort, she forced herself to carry on with the conversation, hoping it wasn't obvious that she was intimidated now that her friend had left. "I've seen it a few times. I really liked it, but that might just be because it's got Steve Strait in it." Anouk gave a short, forced chuckle there, hoping the joke would ease the tension. Turning her attention to...anywhere but that shark-smile, the other new professor caught her eye. Well, he must be a professor because he was too old to be a student. Figuring that was who all the girls had been talking about, she appraised him and would give him a polite smile and wave should he look in their direction. [d]
Dragos: Was he that intimidating? Honestly his smile was innocent! The unease she felt was swallowed down, her nervousness enough to satisfy his curiosity. It was a terrible idea to let Dragos know your fears. Anna was trying her best to act casual and he simply kept on grinning. His chin rested on his crossed forearms as he braced himself against the back of the chair. Truth be told he didn't know a damn thing she was talking about so he just nodded. " I came for th'snacks..."Speaking of! Another cookie was produced from his pocket. He had shoved a couple in there with a napkin. The baked good was shoved into his mouth and held there by sharp canines. Hazels followed Anouk's gaze. HEY! He saw that. Professor Killian was given a waggle of his finger. " Vehn the drinks aren't good you bring yer own, da?"He tilted his chin upward in a brief nod.
James: - He'd frown a little when he heard the accent confront him about his flask. Damn. He'd turn to look at the boy, and instantly could tell he was a necromancy student. It was the way he looked, they all had this.... well, something about them. He'd smile to the girl and nod in return to her wave. - "Yeah, something like that." - He spoke lowly since the movie was playing and the field was full of people there to watch it. - [d]
anouk: She could tell the professor wasn't interested in being disturbed by the way he spoke low and quick before returning to the movie. The reaction caused her to flinch, worrying that she might be now associated with the trouble maker next to her. Teeth grazing her lower lip, she fumbled with her bag of skittles until it opened and spilled a sugary rainbow all over her lap. Shoot! Grabbing what she could, a few fell on the grass for the insects to find and eat. Trying to recover from that, she shoved the bag back into her sweat shirt's front pocket and shrugged at Dragos, hoping it would be seen more as funny-clumsiness than nerves. "I uh... I just remembered that I have a metric ton of summer reading to catch up on." As soon as the excuse was formed, she stood up and gave her peer another awkward handshake. "I'll catch up with you tomorrow...um...'night." With a bob that was half-bow-half-curtsy, she made her way quickly through the field, ducking low so people could still see and went back to her room where it was safe.[d]
