anouk daae: The Tuesday before the actual start of school had Rookhaven slowly filling up with students and faculty. That eventing at supper, the tables were full of amuse bouche and canapes as a clue to the culinary arts students, showing what sort of items they could expect to be making in the first week. Each item, had been a bite-sized copy of a full meal, each one identical to the one next to it, set up buffet-style on mirror platters with champagned aspec cut up like golden jewels forming a waterfall amid mountains of cheese and bread and fruit. Once sated, she students would normally be sent off to their last class of the day, however being that school wasn't yet in session, most retired to the great common rooms. Playing video games, ping-pong, pool - the boys were on one side, the girls remained on the other watching TV or gossiping. Then, of course, there were the odd ball students who were sprinkled about the room, reading or listening in on conversations, trying to make friends. Anouk had already been upstairs to change and prepare for bed. Wearing a pair of Rookhaven sweat pants and a dark green tank top, she was one such 'sprinkle.' Draped sideways on a love seat, reading more about Etemmu and Star-Worshippers of Babylon, she half-listened to the conversations around her, enjoying the warmth of the fire place.[d]
BipedaI Arachnid: :: He too had made his way to the "festivities." While the idea and thought of being in a room with...all of them was rather hated, he had no choice but to intermingle if he was going to go about the business he was around for. After all, people never trusted the loner. At the same time, though, his gaze had traveled across the room picking out features and trying to identify each person. Pick out certain things that could give away their "likes" so he could feign interest. There was a small group of boys in the center of all the hustle and bustle though that had drawn most of his attention. The kind of people he loved...dealing with. It was obvious they thought themselves superior, smug looks on their faces as they continued to bully some kids into intimidation. Among them, he spotted the presumed "leader" of the group, in the center of his friends audibly discussing all the new students in a..not so favorable fashion. Despite his observations though, he couldn't help but head toward the group. He wasn't exactly LOOKING for trouble....but he wasn't doing anything to avoid it in the slightest either. As he made his way closer and through the throng of students, his gaze cast out toward one of the students plopped on the love seat near the fire, before continuing to scan the others that he could. He was almost robotic in his approach as he drew closer to her, eyes examining the book title. He did need to integrate himself after all, and from what he could initially observe, she was about as interested as he was in getting to know a lot of people:: I thought they frowned on necromancy magic in general. ::He forced a lopsided smile on that face.
anouk daae: As she had been earlier that day when Yvonne found her in the library, she was thoroughly engrossed in the book. Incisors puncturing the inside of her bottom lip as she turned a page, hazel eyes bright as they flickered back and forth over the words. And just the same as before, hearing someone's voice to close to her when she wasn't expecting it startled her. Looking up and around, it took her a moment to realize the voice had come from someone she'd never met. Tilting her head to the side, the book rest in her lap with her arms folding on top so as to cover up exactly what it was she'd been reading at that particular moment. "Don't let Professor Hallan hear you say that," she muttered, shaking her head. Natasha Hallan was the returning teacher of Necromancy. In addition, there were a handful of students in each grade that majored in the practice of all things dead. Even though she was pale with dark hair, that was about the only resemblance she shared with those students practicing the 'dark arts.' They were usually a bit more put together, with more eyeliner. At least that was the stereotype. "You've got a new face... Transfer?" The question was posed as an invitation to a conversation. It seemed they were both loners, might as well meet someone new. Besides, too much more of that book before bed and she'd never get to sleep. [d]
BipedaI Arachnid: Yeah, I'm new here. You must know a lot of faces if you can pick mine out of a crowd. Either that, or maybe my face is just really memorable. ::A small smirk as he was obviously joking with her. He paused only a moment as he waited for her to respond, and then cast his gaze over as the "brat pack" of male students were now teasing another kid:: Doesn't anybody stand up to them? They've been bothering other kids since I got here. That guy in the center I'm guessing is the ring leader. ::He didn't take a seat anywhere nearby, just stood standing in front of her for the moment. Hey, this was going swimmingly in his opinion. ::
anouk daae: When one wasn't socializing or running their mouth 24/7, they tended to notice more...like who was new. The fast that he'd wandered up to her for a conversation also gave away how new he was. Still, she smiled back and tucked her bookmark safely in the text and shut it, setting it on the table in front of her. "Yes, it must be your memorable face." As the conversation turned, her attention followed where he'd pointed, causing her to scowl once she discovered who he'd been referring to. "That would be Robert Lancaster... and there is no point," she replied with a shake of her head. The boy must have heard his name because he turned to them, made a comment, and had a laugh before turning away. "Boys like him are weeds - remove one and three sprout overnight." Her accent took on more of a growl as she spoke before she turned her attention to the stranger. "Would you like to sit down?" Her hand gestured to the sofa next to her that faced the fireplace. It was odd having to look up at someone.[d]
BipedaI Arachnid: ::When Robert had cast his glance over, he was sure to meet Aaron's smug smile at the man. Aaron wanted the man to think they were talking about him. He cared little about whether the guy liked him or not. :: Then you rip those weeds from the ground too. ::It was obvious he was very practical. But when she had asked him to sit, he shot her one of those million dollar smiles and plopped himself right on the couch where she had motioned with her hand. :: Sure. So what's there to really do for fun around here? ::He glanced around at the people playing games and generally conversing. Everyone for the most part had seemed pretty happy anyways. So he "appeared" the same way too::
Myriad Visage: Robert Lancaster could hear his name from a mile away. He had his own version of the million dollar smile. Difference between him and creepy curly was that Robert had been attending the school for years now and everyone knew who he was. He was the kid with far too big an ego and while he had his fanboy following, most people rolled their eyes at the mention of his name. He was famous in his eyes, though, and that was all that mattered. He motioned to his little squad of groupies, waving at them to stay there. "Watch this..." Hands went into his pockets as he walked over to Anouk, strutting like a peacock with his feathers held high. Personal space? Yeah, he had no idea what that was. Just draped an arm over her shoulder, even if he had to bend down, and tilted his head towards hers. "I knew you'd come around to me eventually. That's gotta be the fourth or fifth time I've heard you whisper my name while sliding shy glances my way." Duck-faced kissy gesture made at her, then he looked at the kid in her company with an all too cheeky grin. "She's future wife number one. Better be nice to her." Gales of laughter from the peanut gallery.
anouk daae: The stranger, who had yet to introduce himself, had just sat down when she saw movement heading toward her in her peripherals. Looking back up just in time, she saw and then felt that creepy little worm slide his arms across her bare shoulders, the feeling was enough to make her skin crawl. But she knew better than to mouth off to him. You don't react to bullies or they keep coming at you. Instead, the muscles in her jaws tensed visibly beneath her skin as her teeth clenched, biting down a number of unladylike swears that were bound to get her sent to the Headmistress's office. "Oh, Bobby, you always know just what to say to get a girl's nether's quivering..." she muttered through grit teeth, rolling her eyes as she did so. "Now please, sugar-booger," she added with a straight face, staring straight ahead to keep herself from sending everything in that fireplace on to his clothing "you know how I feel about
public affection." Her words were coated with sarcasm and said in her most monotone way. Remaining otherwise still as a statue, she waited patiently for him to remove his arm and leave. [d]
BipedaI Arachnid: Future wife number 1? I'm guessing I had you and your...::He motioned toward the group of friends who seemed to follow him like he was their lord and savior:: "friends" pegged wrong. A lot of the school does from the few whispers I've heard around, and I only just got here. ::He cast a obviously fake smile toward the male who had forced his presence on them. He didn't like the guy before, and now? Even less. Unlike her however, he didn't feel it was necessarily prudent to keep his mouth shut. :: Just figured you for the kind of guy who likes to play with wands a little bit too much if you catch my drift. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. :: Hey, real world application of social training was definitely a learning experience, but he thought he was doing well so far. Either way, he cast his gaze toward her once again, and pretended like the guy wasn't even there---he was obviously egotistical, and well, wanted to be the center of attention:: I'm Aaron by the way.
Myriad Visage: Robert brandished what he thought was the most handsome of grins, but to most girls, undoubtedly, it came off as fairly creepy. Either Robert didn't care or he was blissfully unaware. He didn't release Anouk right away, but instead pulled her in just a little bit closer and sniffed her hair. It should be noted that he had onion breath, because nothing was sexier than that. After a moment, his attention drifted back to the male, Aaron with an amused, snotty kind of smirk. "Well, I would say it takes one to know when it comes to playing with wands. I'm sure you'd be thrilled to get your hands on mine, maybe a little more, but I'd never want to disappoint the ladies and let them think my wand's casting in a different direction these days. Sorry, chap. I'm sure someone will take you up on the offer, though. Keep trying." He flashed a wink to Aaron then gave Anouk a quick peck on the cheek. "See you later, sugar." And withdrew himself from her with a pleased grin, to rejoin his friends. A couple of which made comments about Bobby's new girl as they walked off with him to harass someone else.
anouk daae: She would have laughed if Bobby wasn't so close to her.The stranger, now identified as Aaron, had been witty while insulting, thoroughly passive aggressive - the same game Bobby used. But all she could think of was the sweaty arm set skin to skin behind her neck. When he leaned in to sniff her hair, she caught a disgusting whiff of his breath and barely stifled her gag reflex. Just when she hoped he was finally leaving, the boy planted his wet, slimy lips on her cheeks, causing her to jerk her head away as he stood up and left. Leaning down, she lifted the hem of her tank top a bit to use the fabric to wipe her face. "Well...Aaron, that was your official welcome to Rookhaven. You'll fit in perfectly." Rolling her eyes, she reached out for her book. While it was great that Aaron had the guts to stand up with Bobby, she wished he hadn't done it while talking to her because it put her right in his line of sight.
As is, she was anyone's perfect target being the mousy shy girl in most cases, but she managed by staying quiet and not drawing attention to herself. Now, however, she had a great big target on her back. Fingers tempted to swing the book open and ignore the newcomer for the rest of forever, she forced herself to calm down, thinking he'd probably meant to be chivalrous instead of equally asinine. As such, she sighed and added "I'm Anna."
BipedaI Arachnid: I'm sure you'd like that a little too much. ::He was going to say something else when the man went to walk away. Aaron kept his gaze on the man as he walked away, just to record his face to memory. Then his gaze slipped back to her. Then her comment about welcoming him to Rookhaven:: I know I'm a good looking guy, but I doubt I'm going to have random men coming up to kiss me. ::He smirked, trying to make light of the situation at least a little bit. :: He always bother you? ::He watched as the man went off to pick on some more women. :: Someone needs to knock him down a peg is all. It'll happen. :: He was relatively unabashed...then again, he wasn't the one basically "molested" by the man. ::
anouk daae: Her annoyance with him was appeased at his comment about being a good looking man. It was arrogant and cocky, just like Lancaster, but with less ...what was the word? Somehow it wasn't as obnoxious. It at least got her to relax. Her jaw was finally able to un-clench, releasing tension she hadn't realized was there. Leaning back in her chair, she tucked her feet underneath herself. To answer his question, "no, he makes his rounds to all the girls. 'Guess today was just my turn." With a shrug, she let her book sit closed in her lap. Glancing up at a clock on the wall, she noted that it would be time for bed soon. Turning back to him, she shook her head "I wouldn't if I were you. He's harmless enough, but that group of friends altogether is not something you want to take on." [d]
BipedaI Arachnid: ::He smirked:: I didn't say it had to be me. ::Although he totally implied it. Besides, this is what he had planned for, after all. Those eyes of his scanned her once more as he saw her eyeing the clock:: Bed time already? ::He shook his head slightly. Then there was an audible growl escaping that stomach of his. He was obviously a bit hungry. But he was used to not eating for long periods of time as well. :: Guess that's my body telling me it's time to eat. Anything you recommend?
Myriad Visage: "Bobby Lancaster, you smell like pig shit! Get your arm off me!" Came from one of the side halls, just out of view of the commons, but certainly not out of range of hearing. The claim and demand was followed by the furiously quick click of heels as Yvonne came from aforementioned hall, pale cheeks flushed with color and the deepest scowl on her face. She should have slapped him, but she didn't. That would be more trouble than cursing, if there were any teachers or other faculty around to hear it. For the moment, she didn't care if she got in trouble. Now, she couldn't even remember what she'd come down to the commons for, and she had a bug whispering in her ear of other means of handling such crassness. She stopped a dozen steps into the area, allowing for pale gaze to scan for any sort of reminder why she was there to begin with, while smoothing out the pencil skirt and blouse, all in black, she currently donned.
anouk daae: Opening her mouth to answer Aaron's question, a hand flew to cover her mouth to keep herself from laughing too loudly. Even before Yvonne had entered the commons, Anouk knew that voice. And, oh, what she wouldn't give to see a show down between those two. Her feet were already under her bottom, so it was easy enough for her to 'stand' on her knees in the chair to gain height, looking around as the clicking of her token heels got closer. The younger girl had her own friends, but Anouk still waved to her when she came in with a big smile. For whatever reason, hearing that pig-shit comment had raised her spirits like nothing else could. "And this, Aaron, is Yvonne Wolff," she said by way of introduction before the girl came over. "She's great, and she can probably tell you more about the food here than I can." That wasn't meant as a jab, just that she'd seen the girl in the cafeteria after hours before - something Anouk had yet to do in all her years at Rookhaven. Given both of their outspokenness, she was sure they'd get along. [d]
Myriad Visage: It was the ring of her name that actually drew an expression of recognition for Anouk. So mad at Bobby that faces were a blur for a moment. Big, pale blue eyes blinked out of her fury and gait carried her to where her friend was, and in the company of a new student. The introduction gained a nod of greeting to Aaron. "Nice to meet you." And a quizzical tilt of her head in regards to the food comment. It was true. Now and then Yvonne spent a little time after hours in the kitchen for a snack, though you'd never know it to look at her. Just a wisp of a girl that might blow away in a strong enough wind. "How come none of the teachers are ever around when Bobby's in the halls? They need to put a warning light or something on him that warns students to keep away from him."
anouk daae: She knew there was a hyphen somewhere in Yvonne's last name, but she'd forgotten it in that moment, mentally kicking herself. At her comment, she just shrugged before leaning in conspiratorially. "I have a theory that he's a cover for teachers to spy on the students. Kinda like how you never see Peter Parker and Spiderman in the same room at the same time." With a stern nod, she leaned back, pleased with her assessment. Yes, that was obviously the answer. Though Yvonne was right, while faculty seldom ventured into the commons, someone was usually around the hallways to keep the kids in line. But somehow he was always acting up behind their faces. Maybe that was his actual mastery, mind control of staff. "So he got you too, huh? That squib is just on a roll tonight."[d]
Myriad Visage: The theory that was given, mouth opened slightly, then closed as a thoughtful expression washed over her face. "You know....I wouldn't put it past them. He'd be the least likely to be seen as a spy." She nodded once, an affirmative gesture as she neared Anouk's chair. Bobby got away with a lot, but it was probably more his time at the school and daddy's deep pockets that allowed it. "Yes. I was walking past him and he all but tackled me, trying to hug me and kiss my cheek." A almost full body shiver subtly rattled that thin frame of hers with an equally subtle sort of yuck face. "then he was grabbing at Laura Rift's skirt. He's going to be in jail for sexual harassment before he graduates."
anouk daae: Listening, her eyes got wide and her jaw nearly dropped to the floor. "He didn't!" she exclaimed. That boy just got more and more bold with each passing year. She wouldn't be at all surprised if those charges were for rape instead of just sexual harassment. "Ugh, that creep. I wish he'd just drop out already." Shaking her head, she glanced at the clock again. It was later than she'd planned to be in the commons. Her method was to set her alarm for 2:50, wait the nightmares out, and then go back to sleep at 4:10. It was a method that had worked over the summer and she was exhausted. "Hey, I'm gonna head to bed. Maybe you should get someone to walk you to your dorm or something later? I wouldn't be surprised if he's been drinking..." Her brows furrowed in worry as she grabbed her book, tucking it under one arm and stood up stretching her free arm. Turning to Aaron, she gave him a mock stern look and pointed her index finger at his nose "No funny business, you play nice. "Reaching in for a hug from Yvonne, she made her exit, and eventually got to her room.[d]
